Places to Visit in BHOPAL


Bhopal is the capital of the Madhya Pradesh and It was founded in 11th century by the Paramara Raja Bhoja. Bhopal is also known as the City of Lakes because of its various natural as well as artificial lakes. Bhopal is the 17th largest city in India. There are many historical and archaeological sites in Bhopal. Read on for my travel guide of Bhopal, listing down its top attractions for tourist and places to visit.

  • Upper Lake - Also known as ‘Bada Talaab’
  • Lower Lake - Nearby the Upper Lake is the Lower Lake which is also called ‘Chhota Talaab’
  • Van Vihar National Park - Established in the year 1979 and It is one of the popular National Parks in Central India.
  • Bhojpur Temple - Bhojpur Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and was built in 11th century AD. It is also known as ‘Bhojeshwar Temple’
  • National Museum of Mankind - It was established in 1977. The name of this museum was changed in 1993 as Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya.
  • State Archaeological Museum - To know about past of Central India you must visit here. This museum was established in 2005.
  • Birla Museum - Birla museum contains objects used by the Paleolithic and Neolithic man.
  • Lakshmi Narayan Temple - It is one of the top tourist places in Bhopal, also known as ‘Birla Mandir’
  • Taj-ul-Masajid - With a capacity of 175,000 people at a time, It is One of the largest mosques in the country.
  • Gohar Mahal - Constructed in the year 1820 and was built with a perfect blend of Hindu and Mughal styles of architecture.
  • Shaukat Mahal - It showcases a unique blend of Indo-Islamic and European styles of architecture.
  • Sadar Manzil - The red-brick structure is a hybrid of the western and Asian style of architecture.
  • Moti Masjid - Built in 1860, also known as the 'Pearl Mosque'
  • Rani Kamlapati Palace - Rani Kamlapati Palace was the residence of beautiful queen Rani Kamlapati wife of the Gond tribal ruler, Nizam Shah.
  • Bhimbetka Caves - Bhimbetka has one of the oldest cave paintings in the world. It is a UNESCO world heritage site.
  • Sanchi Stupa - It is a UNESCO world heritage site since 1989, and was built during 3rd century BC on the orders of Mauryan Emperor, Asoka.
  • Raisen Fort - Raisen fort is also a shrine of a Muslim saint Hazrat Peer Fatehullah Shah Baba. It was Built around 1200 AD.
  • Udayagiri Caves - Udayagiri hills hold twenty caves dedicated to Hinduism and Jainism sculptures from the Gupta Era (4th and 5th century AD).
  • Halali Dam - Halali Dam reservoir was commissioned in 1973. It is a famous spot for picnic and boat rides.
  • Sair Sapata - Inaugurated on 29 September 2011.
  • Jama Masjid - Constructed during the period of Quidisiya Begum.It is officially known as Taj-ul-Masajid.
  • Bharat Bhavan - Opened in 1982, it is a multi-arts center set up to create an interactive proximity between the verbal, visual and performing arts.
  • New Market - It is a local city market, and located in the heart of the Bhopal.
  • DB City Mall - DB City Mall is the most famous and largest shopping center in Central India.
  • Tribal Museum - Inaugurated on June 6, 2013. It highlights aspects of the tribes in Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh.
  • Yodhasthal - It is the army museum in Bhopal known for its exhibition of arms and ammunition used by defense forces.
  • Shaurya Smarak - It is a war memorial situated at Bhopal, inaugurated on 14 October 2016.
  • Manuabhan Tekri - Also known as 'Mahaveer Giri'
  • Islamnagar - Earlier known as Jagadishpur.
